It seems as though the information returned for a title should be the same, whether returned through catalog/titles or through catalog/titles/index. Instead ther average rating is in one and UPC codes are in the other. A standard title format might make all of our lives a little easier. And then maybe the expand option could be used a little more to help keep the size down.
The index was different than the catalog title details by-design- we weren't yet ready to make the full catalog details available for download with just one request at the time- we wanted to have tighter control over this data.
We're changing this policy and allowing the full catalog to be downloaded as well as the index. The index will stick around, as there are some partners with their own title DBs that don't need our full details- they just need enough to interlink our titles with their own.
We don't support expands for the new full catalog as the huge file must be pre-generated and posted to a CDN for scale. However, links in the data are pre-expanded, with the exception of similars as that data is too large to include.
We should be rolling this and other 2.0 features out within the month.
