Not really a API feature request as a message board feature request. Most message boards have an option where you can subscribe to the board such that when a new item is posted, you get an email that points you to it. This would be handy as the boards don't get lots of activity and this way I could only check when somethings been posted.
I agree that this would be useful - the one thing we *do* have for change notification is RSS feeds (by topic, or at the top level). If you have a feed reader you can use that to let you know when things change.
